If biopsy is next, I'd bring a few questions.
If a doctor told me I needed a biopsy, I might be nervous enough to miss a few sentences. Medical training would not make me immune to that. I would write my questions down beforehand.
My three questions: why do I need it now? Which areas need sampling, including any beyond a suspicious MRI target? And which route will you use, with what pain control and infection precautions?
I would ask whether transperineal biopsy fits me: sampling through the skin between the scrotum and anus rather than the rectum. PREVENT supports fewer infections under its study conditions, with similar detection of important cancers. Pain, bleeding and difficulty urinating can still happen.
If we agreed to proceed, I would get written preparation, aftercare warning signs and contact details, plus a date to discuss the report. I would consider bringing someone I trust to listen with me. Another pair of ears would be more useful than trying to prove I could remember everything.
